A practical example
A proposal may list the substrate, insulation and covering separately. Together, these describe the roof build-up; ask what remains from the old roof.
What should you ask about it?
Ask the contractor to point out the component on an overview photograph or drawing. Confirm what will be done to it and whether adjoining work is included. This turns an unfamiliar term into a clear agreement.
